“Policy makers just don't listen and recommendations made are not taken up. People live in poverty because policy causes it. Poverty is not accidental, it's social, structural and economic decisions that make it.″ Participant, NIAPN Anti-Poverty Strategy Consultation, North Belfast Workshop 2005

A central objective of NIAPN's work is to provide information on developments at a local, national and European level to our members. As a member of the European Anti-Poverty Network we will be campaigning and lobbying on a range of poverty issues - providing information to our members and consulting with them as we have on previous issues. These included the campaign against VAT on fuel, research into the extent of low pay, the case for a minimum wage, an analysis of the New Deal programme and the inclusion of Socio-Economic Rights within the Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. We will be making many of our interventions available here for download: Latest Information from Poverty and Health Inequlities conference 23rd April 2007 Developing an Anti-Poverty Agenda in the Eastern Area - A Shared Focus The Eastern Health & Social Services Board, the Northern Ireland Anti-Poverty Network and the Insititute of Public health have developed a joint programme adressing poverty and health inequalities in Northern Ireland.
