“We have poverty levels of unacceptable proportions in Northern Ireland where independent research shows 47% of Catholic households and 46% of Protestant households are living in poverty. The difference between poverty levels in the two communites is quickly disappearing, while the gap between the better off and the poor within both communities is growing. The poor in both communities are being margnalised. We know with our troubled history where this leads, this situation needs to be tackled head on.”Goretti Horgan, NIAPN Chair, Anti-Poverty News, October 2005

NIAPN publishes a range of interventions on poverty and anti-poverty policy-related issues, as well as a regular newsletter and other media. Click to see an overview of our current publications. The 'Poverty and Powerlessness' pack contains factsheets on marginalised groups in Northern Ireland, core essays providing an analysis on various aspects of poverty and social exclusion. The heart of the pack is a members essay section based on participative workshops with disadvantaged groups such as ex-prisoners, lone parents, asylum seekers and refugees. The action section contains examples of local projects aimed at tackling different aspects of poverty and social exclusion across Northern Ireland. Many of the reports and policy papers referred to above are regularly made available for download to NIAPN members.
We update this section regularly so do come back and visit us again soon.
