“Households in Northern Ireland on average earn 20% less than those in the rest of the UK. We pay significantly more for fuel, gas, electricity, clothes, groceries, transport and many other basic necessities. Northern Ireland is not a place of prosperity as much as we would all like that to be the case. As many as 30% of the population exist solely on benefits, benefits which have been under attack and which have significantly reduced in value over the last two decades.”Frances Dowds, Director, NIAPN

The Northern Ireland Anti-Poverty Network was established in 1991 to create a focus on poverty. It is an interactive network with over 300 members drawn from the voluntary and community sectors, public and statutory bodies. NIAPN provides newsletters, organise seminars, meetings and conferences, undertakes research and disseminates information on poverty and social exclusion. We are one of 25 members of the European Anti-Poverty Network. EAPN monitor and analyse EU policies, which have an impact on people in poverty. The Northern Ireland Anti-Poverty Network works in partnership with sister anti-poverty networks in Scotland, England, Wales and the South of Ireland.
